Akin’s Group was founded by Elizabeth Ogidan Lawal, a visionary entrepreneur, founder, and CEO whose remarkable journey reflects resilience, adaptability, and an unwavering commitment to community empowerment.
Elizabeth’s story began in Nigeria, before relocating to Canada in 1986, where she faced the challenges of building a new life in a new country. Confronted with language barriers, cultural adjustment, and the need to establish herself from the ground up, she embraced every opportunity with courage and determination. Her early experiences included a wide range of roles, from unloading trucks and offloading potatoes to becoming Winnipeg’s first Black woman cab driver, each experience strengthening her work ethic, resilience, and deep understanding of community life in Canada. Driven by an enterprising spirit, Elizabeth took a bold step in 2000 when she purchased a grocery store, marking the beginning of her journey into business ownership.
Committed to lifelong learning and excellence, Elizabeth further advanced her education, earning a Diploma in Business Administration (Administration Major) in June 2005 from Red River College, Winnipeg, followed by a Diploma with Honors in Property Management in June 2021 from Ashworth College, Norcross, United States. These academic achievements, combined with her lived experiences, shaped her leadership philosophy and entrepreneurial vision.
Rooted in values of inclusivity, representation, and empowerment, Elizabeth founded Akin’s Group (Akin’s Biz) as more than a business, it is a community-centered organization dedicated to bridging cultural gaps, fostering collaboration, and creating supportive spaces where professionals, entrepreneurs, and community members can thrive.
Under her leadership, Akin’s Biz has grown into a vibrant and dynamic platform that reflects her belief in the power of community, resilience, and opportunity.
